Metro Calls For Service Cuts To Add More Blue Line Trains

WASHINGTON (AP) — Metro is proposing cutting service on four rail lines so that it can add more trains and reduce wait times on the crowded blue line.

Under the proposal, riders on the blue line would see trains every eight minutes during rush hour instead of every 12 minutes. There would also be more trains on the blue line during peak hours.

Metro spokeswoman Sherry Ly says the changes are meant to alleviate a bottleneck at the Rosslyn tunnel. So there would be fewer trains on the orange and silver lines, and wait times would increase slightly.

Trains would also run less frequently on the green and yellow lines during peak hours.

The proposed changes are to be announced Wednesday to Metro’s Riders Advisory Council.

WAMU-FM first reported on the proposal.
